We travel well…
Lots of wine companies sell their wines on the strength that they ‘travel well’ and it just occurred to me that we – the Tropical Sun Team – do too. This weekend we are staying at the fabulous Pelican Grand Beach Resort in Fort Lauderdale (OK, I’ll grant you, we didn’t have to travel far). It’s a wonderful hotel and Andy had a splendid experience last night on the beach.
He’s been hard at work photographing and I’ve found the perfect location in the hotel for their Signature Collection. (I’ve also just had a delicious blackened snapper sandwich but a) that’s beside the point and b) I’m supposed to be vegetarian so please don’t tell anyone…)
Where was I? As you know, Andy would literally live on the beach if he could. The next best thing though is his system of walking on the beach every morning, often for two hours or more, capturing the moment. But last night, he walked on the beach. It was too dark to take photographs but this is what he wrote:
Thanks to Pelican Grand Beach Resort I have this evening witnessed a life experience. I’m their guest for a day or so, and went walking out around midnight, looking for one of my favorite photographic subjects, sea turtle tracks. Already lots to see, but tonight I found one set of tracks up the beach… and sure enough momma loggerhead was busy in the sand laying her nest. I spent the next 40 mins just quietly seated 6ft away from the nest laying, and then her crawl back down to the ocean.
No photos – it was very dark and I didn’t want to frighten her. Just such a privilege to witness and very special. I’ll show you the nest tomorrow morning, and will follow the progress of the hatchlings which will emerge in seven weeks or so. Unforgettable.
Here’s this morning’s photograph:
