Oh, so it’s the fault of mobile photography
England’s Prince Harry has reportedly been photographed – by a mobile phone – naked. Some websites are saying that the reason for this is the fact that everyone these days carries a camera in their purse or pocket – their smartphone.
There are also many ‘shock, horror’ articles on various websites. None that I have seen are British. You see, in England we are not ashamed of our bodies. And why should we be? We’ve all got one and this is 2012 for goodness’ sake. It reminds me of one occasion during some ball game when Janet Jackson’s nipple was exposed. America was horrified. Excuse me? It’s a nipple. Why should that be any different to a finger or an earlobe? It’s just part of the human body. We all have nipples.
I read an article today, from 1998, that referred to the ‘p word’ and the ‘v word’. Can’t we say penis and vagina? Why are they different from a liver or a foot? They are all body parts. Why is America ashamed of sex and sexuality?
One American article says that a photograph of Harry ‘shows him cupping his private area’. Why are testicles more private than your stomach or your knees? If children grow up thinking that their sexual organs are ‘private’ and somehow dirty, how is the human race to survive?
Yeah, let’s blame mobile photography.
