Good Day Sunshine
Today as we worked the musical theme was The Beatles, so it’s almost been whistle while you work.
I’ve probably had music on while I work since, er, as soon as I could turn on a transistor radio, so I do have a big Beatles memory. I also – I think – have all their music all snug on the old iPod.
As a completist I began on vinyl, with the British indie rock band Joy Division. I had everything the band made, from plastic flexi discs (komakino) to limited edition masterpieces like ‘Atmosphere’ on some fancy French art label.
The digital era has made things a little easier, and The Wailers were my first competist project, right down to the session work they did with the likes of Taj Mahal and Martha Velez.
Pretty soon I did the same for the Beatles, and today we devoted a whole day to listen to the latter, including gems like the ‘Past Masters’ series with old B-sides and rarities.
Such fun to hear, and what wonderful upbeat music to work to. Lennon Harrison and McCartney really lift the spirits.
