Do you have online advertorials?
If so, you’d better take another look. Google is now frowning upon these when it comes to backlinks. Of course, we were all expecting this because advertorials fall under the description of ‘paid links’ but now we have it confirmed. If you are embarking on a backlinking campaign at the moment – and if you are you must tread very, very carefully – be sure that advertorial links are not included. Non-organics links are increasingly being examined under the microscope.
So, we’ve known for a long time that backlinks on link farms harm your site, that’s nothing new. The old-style posting-on-forums-and-guestbooks is now long gone. Online press releases have had their day. Widgets are passé and can do your website a great deal of harm.
We know that old-fashioned anchor text will hurt websites. Unnatural link-building is definitely going to damage a site, blog rolls are a thing of the past and automated programs are consigned to the scrap heap. Anchor text has to be so carefully worded or it’s as bad as having twentieth century-style metatag keywords, invisible text or automatically generated text on your site.
So what’s left?
You know, because Google (oh and me!) has told you. You just don’t like it
