Art and Feng Shui
Now I’m certainly no expert when it comes to Feng Shui. This, as you know, is the ancient art of placement and decor in your home or office in order to get the most positive vibes. I know, it sounds like my old hippie side is coming out, doesn’t it? But, as they say on TV commercials, wait.
Many people, if they are asked about their belief in unseen vibrations and harmonies that can quietly affect our lives, will think that it’s nonsense. But unseen vibrations affect our lives every day – you can’t see electricity, radio waves, wifi, magnetics and so on but they’re there and they work.
And then of course, there is the ‘just in case – it can’t hurt’ factor. (For example, how many people who haven’t given religion a thought in years pray desperately during a bumpy flight?) Have you ever crossed your fingers for luck? Do you have a lucky charm? Have you ever read your horoscope? Are you a bit wary of Friday the thirteenth? Would you avoid walking under a ladder? We all have our own funky little superstitions which are backed up by no logic whatsoever. (Well, I do!) But Feng Shui experts will tell you that their specialty does have logic.
As I said, I have only a very, very basic knowledge of Feng Shui but if placing a mirror on one wall in my house rather than another can bring positive energy into my house, then it’s certainly a consideration I’m going to take into account – ‘it can’t hurt’.
And this is where artwork comes in. Many Feng Shui experts recommend that people put a photograph or painting of a sunrise on the important eastern walls in their home – ’ it can’t hurt’.
Water, they say, equals money in Feng Shui. A perfectly place artwork featuring water can add to the prosperity of your home or business – ‘it can’t hurt’.
Colors like orange, gold and red have meaning too. Red, along with blue and purple indicate wealth and prosperity. Red and orange affect your fame and reputation. For your career, travel and attracting the help of useful people, I imagine that Feng Shui experts would recommend that a black and white photograph on the wall would be perfect. Sunrises represent optimism and energy.
Now I’m not saying that one of our limited edition prints of the red and gold sun rising over a beautiful calm blue ocean will instantly make you into an energized, enthusiastic billionaire and I doubt that any Feng Shui expert would either.
But it can’t hurt, can it?
